Business profile

At the core of our Brine & Water business is the extraction and purification of brine. Brine is used as an essential raw material by the chemical industry in the Northwest of England, including the INEOS ChlorVinyls chlorine plant and our own Salt Business, both at Runcorn in Cheshire.

Through a process of solution mining we extract around 36,000 m3 of brine each day from our brinefields at Holford in mid-Cheshire. We operate around 275 miles of pipeline, which moves the brine around our infrastructure and on to customers.

INEOS Enterprises, and its forebears, has a long history of solution mining salt cavities at the Holford Brinefields This area of Cheshire is one of the few locations in the UK that has the favourable geology for brine extraction coupled with a local market for the brine. Indeed, this is one of the main reasons why the chemical industry has such a strong presence in the Northwest.

In addition to the brine and water activities we are also involved in gas storage, and have extensive experience in the safe manufacture and handling of hazardous chemicals.

We are also at the forefront of developments in the responsible handling and use of our products, and in the management of environmental issues associated with our operations.
